UGANDA – TRAVELLER’S STOPOVER

Business or leisure travellers who are able to add a few days to their itinerary would be fools not to try and do some birding! As you land and take off from Entebbe, a hop skip and jump from Mabamba swamp and a relatively short drive to Mabira Forest, this may be right up your alley.

Day 1: Early morning departure for Mabamba Swamp – the prime target of course will be the majestic Shoebill, however other species on offer include Great Blue Turaco, Double-toothed Barbet, Orange Weaver, as well as a whole host of waterbirds.

After your boat trip in the papyrus swamps on the edge of Lake Victoria, you transfer to Mabira Forest, to be greeted by Guereza Colobus and noisy Black-and-white Casqued Hornbills.

Day 2: An early morning departure into the magical forest of Mabira. Although the forest is fairly small, it is host to a number of sought after species, often easier than in other larger forests. Weyns’s Weaver, Black-bellied Seedeater, Blue-breasted and Shining Blue Kingfisher are just some of the gems you’ll find.

After this frenetic session of birding you’ll transfer back to Entebbe for your evening flight, or to accommodation you may have booked separately.
