Bustards Birding Tours

This trip will offer an opportunity to look for Basra Reed-Warbler, Barred Long-tailed Cuckoo and other species found in the forests of Central Mozambique. Also present are African Broadbill, Swynnerton’s Robin and White-chested Alethe. We will visit the only known site for Bohm’s Bee-eater in the southern African region and will climb Mount Gorongosa for the localised population of Green-headed Oriole.

This trip is targeted at getting to the Harare wetlands when they are at their peak. Streaky-breasted Flufftail, Corn Crake, Striped Crake, Spotted Crake are all possible at this time. More common birds of the wetlands include Black Coucal, Pale-crowned Cisticola, the range-restricted Yellow-mantled Widowbird. We will also visit the miombo around Harare, looking for Spotted Creeper, Collared Flycatcher, Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah, Orange-winged Pytilia and Green-backed Honeybird. Full Itinerary

We will accompany Vietnam Birding on a tour of this magnificent south-east Asian country. Targets include three species of pitta (Eared, Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied), Sooty Babbler and the recently described Black-crowned Barwing.  Full Itinerary    

The best of West African birding from rain forests to dry savannah.  Highlights include the peculiar White-necked Rockfowl, African Piculet and various other upper Guinea endemics. This trip targets some of the rare mammals we get in South Africa, namely Aardvark, Aardwolf and Black-footed Cat. Birds are not forgotten, however, and we will also look for Burchell’s Courser, Bradfield’s Swift and the many larks found in this area.

We target the larks (Red, Stark’s, Sclater’s, Karoo, Cape Long-billed, Barlow’s, Black-eared Sparrowlark) and other species endemic to the semi-arid Northern Cape (Cinnamon-breasted Warbler, Karoo Eremomela) as well as other difficult-to-find birds in South Africa (Rosy-faced Lovebird, Black-headed Canary). Our last trip to the area also produced Heaviside’s Dolphin, an uncommon endemic in the waters off the south-west coast of Africa.

The best of East Africa with excellent opportunities for Shoebill, Great Blue Turaco, African Green Broadbill, Green-breasted Pitta, amongst several other Albertine Rift endemics, Mountain Gorillas and Chimps. Uganda has to be on everyone’s bucket-list!

This trip focuses on the specials of the north-eastern Namibia along the Zambezi and Kavango Rivers and the panhandle of the Okavango.  This area is excellent for Pygmy Goose, African Skimmer, Rock Pratincole, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Wattled Crane and more. Being on the northern boundary of the Southern African region, it is a desirable location where species on the limits of their range, such as Souza’s Shrike, Rufous-bellied Tit and Sharp-tailed Starling, can be found, as well as being one of the easiest places to find the swamp specialist, Luapula Cisticola.

This trip offers your best chance of seeing the elusive African Pitta, as they perform their curious display at the start of the rainy season. Also present are African Broadbill, Swynnerton’s Robin and White-chested Alethe.
