Day 1 Johannesburg – Lion & Elephant
After a day’s driving from Johannesburg we will have the afternoon on the banks of Bubye River where we’ll encounter the first of our lowveld birds: Meve’s Starling, African Mourning Dove, Meyer’s Parrot, Little Sparrowhawk, amongst others.
Day 2 Lion & Elephant – Harare
We’ll arrive in the early afternoon in Harare which should leave enough time to visit the Wetlands, picking up Black Coucal, Pale-Crowned Cisticola, Yellow-mantled Widowbirds, Magpie Mannikin and Broad-tailed Warbler. En route we’ll scour the granite outcrops alongside the road for the endemic Boulder Chat.
Day 3 Harare
Day 3 will be in the wetlands looking for Streaky-breasted Flufftail, Corn Crake, Striped Crake, Spotted Crake and Rosy-throated Longclaw.
Day 4 Harare
We’ll target the Miombo near Harare where we should find Spotted Creeper, Boulder Chat, Green-backed Honeybird, Wood Pipit, Tree Pipit, Broad-tailed Paradise Whydah and Collared Flycatcher.
Day 5 Harare – Masvingo
After a morning in Harare looking for anything we may have missed we’ll head through to Lake Mutirikwe which will allow us another opportunity to see miombo specials such as Miombo Tit, Miombo Double-collared Sunbird and Wood Pipit.
Day 6 Masvingo – Johannesburg
After one last opportunity to bird the miombo we’ll start the long drive back to Johannesburg, arriving home in the early evening.
