Mabamba Swamp ♦ Entebbe Botanical Gardens ♦ Mabira Forest

Day 1: Arrive Entebbe Arrive at Entebbe Airport and transfer to guest house

Day 2: Mabamba Swamp & Entebbe Botanical Gardens This large and accessible wetland near the village of Mabamba on the shores of Lake Victoria is only a short drive from Entebbe Airport accessible through a dusty road (Approximately one and a half hours drive). The immense papyrus swamp is interspersed with channels and lagoons and floating lily pads. This is the best spot in the Uganda to find the mighty Shoebill. The swamp has got a lot more to offer such as Carruther’s Cisticola, White-winged Warbler, Saddle-billed Stork, African Pygmy Goose and Lesser Jacana. Other distinct possibilities include Purple and Goliath Herons, Yellow Billed Stork, Hottentot Teal, Long-toed Lapwing, Grey headed Gull, Gull-billed Tern, Malachite Kingfisher, Blue-breasted Bee-eater, Swamp Flycatcher, Winding Cisticola, Red-chested Sunbird and Blue-headed Coucal, to mention a few.

Day 3: Mabamba Swamp and transfer to Mabira Forest We revisit the swamp for a second view of the Shoebill and other birds of the area, such as the impressive Great Blue Turaco. Later in the day we transfer to Mabira Forest.

Day 4: Mabira Forest

Mabira forest is a special birding spot located in central Uganda; it protects the largest natural forest in the area. The key species here include Nahan’s Partridge, Tit Hylia, Forest Woodhoopoe, Blue-breasted, African Dwarf, and Shining blue Kingfishers, Forest Robin, Purple-throated Cuckooshrike, Yellow-billed, Hairy-breasted, and Yellow-spotted Barbets, Crowned Eagle, Cassin’s Hawk Eagles, Yellow Longbill, African Emerald, Dusky Long-tailed and Red-chested Cuckoos, Red-headed Bluebill, Black-bellied Seedcraker, White-throated, Slender-billed and Toro Olive Greenbulls, Weyn’s  Weaver, African Grey Parrot, White-spotted Flufftail, Red-capped and Blue shouldered Robin-Chat, Black-billed Turaco , Yellow-lored and Red-tailed Bristlebill, and the list goes on!

Later in the evening transfer to the guest house in Entebbe for an overnight stay flying out the next day.
